Chief Engineer - Shotguns - (Show Details)
Description: Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc., is a firearm and investment castings manufacturer headquartered in Southport, CT with firearm manufacturing operations located in Newport, NH and Prescott, AZ. The Newport, NH Division is looking for a Chief Engineer for Shotguns. This position has product design and product engineering responsibility for the firm's new and existing shotgun products.
Principal Accountabilities
- Creates and/or modifies all types of shotgun designs using CAD drafting tools. This includes the design of components as well as the selection of materials to be used in the final products.
- Supports and coordinates activities with the manufacturing engineering staff as required.
- Works closely with manufacturing to resolve production problems related to tooling, cutters, speeds and feeds.
- Tests and evaluates functions of product prototypes.
- Develops and executes project plans/schedules to satisfy design project requirements.
- Provides technical support to internal and external customers.
Background/Experience
Requires a minimum of 8-10 years of product design and product engineering experience in a firearms design capacity preferably designing all types of shotguns.
Must have demonstrated skills in 3D/Solid Modeling using SolidWorks, Pro E or a compatible CAD system.
Knowledge of Geometric Modeling would be a plus. Should be familiar with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Mechanism software as required in firearms design.
Background in design for manufacturability is necessary.
A Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.

Director of Marketing - (Show Details)
The Director of Marketing is responsible for driving demand for Ruger products with both Consumers and our trade partners. This individual will be a key part of the Sales and Marketing Team. The ideal candidate will be one who understands the passion that our customers have for shooting sports and hunting and finds new and novel ways to communicate and promote the Ruger brand and our products to them. Responsibilities include hands-on management of marketing staff and outside marketing agencies; development of all marketing strategies and supporting materials; coordinating efforts with the sales team to implement sales and marketing strategies protecting consistency of brand positioning, and working closely with manufacturing and sales to maximize marketing impact and ROI of marketing expenditures.
This position reports to the Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
The Director of Marketing is expected to:
- Develop overall marketing strategies to support and promote all rifle, pistol, shotgun, revolver and accessory product lines.
- Conceive and execute new and novel strategies for new product launches.
- Produce all collateral materials to support marketing strategies and efforts including print advertisements, annual firearm catalogs, fliers, television commercials, and supplemental materials.
- Oversee all aspects of the Media Plan and direct media buyer in development and management of advertising budget for print, web and television advertising. Select appropriate ads for insertion considering factors such as seasonality, publication demographic data, and product placement.
- Oversee all web-based marketing efforts including strategic development and management of Company websites and content, development and placement of web-based advertising, links, promotions and e-mail campaigns.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive competitor database.
- Conduct ongoing and project based marketing research as necessary to support new product initiatives and business analysis.
- Create and manage programs to support retailers including collateral materials, co-op advertising program, trade events and point-of-sale programs.
- Manage outside marketing agencies and consultants.
- Coordinate presence at major trade shows including booth layout, marketing material creation, product selection for display.
Required experience and knowledge
- Minimum of 8 years experience as a Marketing or Product Manager or similar position. Firearms or outdoor products experience preferred.
- Demonstrated success defining and launching exciting and profitable new products.
- Demonstrated experience marketing and/or selling products with a high level of technical or mechanical features.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred).
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
- Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time.
