Prior to engraving the metal, the engraving design must first be transferred
to the components being engraved. A fine-pointed tool is then used to
outline the area being engraved.

Hand engraving is a time-honored process involving the use of specialized
steel engraving tools and small hammers. Due to the fine detail and precise
nature of this process, much of the work is performed under a microscope.
When the design involves the use of inlay, often 24 karat gold, the edges
of the areas where metal has been removed are undercut to secure the
inlaid material. The inlaid material is often shaped and patterned to
provide a more vibrant design.

At each step of the process the engraver carefully inspects each component
against the original Ruger Studio firearm design developed with the client. |
