Ruger American Rifle Named "Best of the Best"
August 14, 2012
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), is proud to announce that the Ruger American Rifle™ has been awarded the 2012 Best of the Best award from Field & Stream magazine. Products named to Field & Stream's Best of the Best list represent absolute excellence in their field, and only the top performing products are given this designation.
"We are honored to receive this Best of the Best recognition from Field & Stream magazine," said Ruger President & CEO Mike Fifer. "The Ruger American Rifle is the whole package - rugged, reliable, and incredibly accurate. The innovative features of this 100% American-made rifle deliver performance that rivals far more expensive firearms. Thank you to the experts at Field & Stream for recognizing the Ruger American Rifle™ as one of the best hunting rifles in the field," he concluded.
"Our staff spent the better part of the past year finding and testing the gear that will make readers' time in the woods more productive and more fun," says Slaton White, Deputy Editor of Field & Stream. "The winning products not only withstood our tough testing, but they stood head and shoulders above the rest displaying absolute excellence in their field. The Best of the Best is the highest honor Field & Steam bestows on gear and the winning products are the best of the year; worth your time, worth your money."
The 6-1/4 pound Ruger American Rifle™ is offered in short- and long-action calibers. The rifle features the new Ruger Marksman Adjustable™ trigger that offers a crisp release with a pull weight that is user-adjustable between three and five pounds. Ruger's patent-pending Power Bedding™ system utilizes stainless-steel bedding blocks insert-molded into the stock to positively locate the receiver and free-float the barrel. The barrel's rifling is cold hammer forged to exacting tolerances, providing sub-MOA accuracy and an easy to clean mirror-smooth finish.
The Ruger American Rifle's three-lug, 70-degree bolt utilizes a full diameter bolt body and dual cocking cams for smooth, easy cycling. The reliable 4-round, rotary magazine fits flush with the stock and offers the smooth feed of Ruger rotary magazines. The receiver is drilled and tapped for mounting the included scope bases. The easily accessible tang safety, which can be placed "on safe" while the bolt is cycled, is complemented by the passive, trigger-mounted safety which positively locks the trigger.
About Best of the Best
Each year the editors at Field & Stream review new products and innovations and choose the top performing items for inclusion in the annual Best of The Best round-up. Field & Stream test-team members rigorously test each item during a process dubbed the "Field & Stream Torture Tests." Products are shot, bent, driven, dropped, and generally abused. Anything that falters is immediately eliminated. Beyond surviving the torture tests, winning products are ultimately selected based on significance of the innovation, the quality of the design, and the value they bring to outdoorsmen. Selection criteria varies, depending upon the category, but all of the winning products share one characteristic: excellence in their field.
