Thank you for your interest in the Ruger American® Pistol retrofit.
We value retailers of Ruger® firearms, and strive to make this process as smooth and efficient as possible. In order for us to give you the best service possible, please enter your FFL number below to proceed. International retailers sign-up here.
We have developed two different methods to retrofit your inventory depending on whether the pistols are new or used. Please review the descriptions below to learn about the options. If you elect to participate, you can sign up for the retrofit.
As an initial matter, it is important to note that only a very small percentage of pistols will ever
experience the Safety Bulletin condition. As described in the Bulletin, the condition progresses slowly if it occurs
at all. Any crack would be visible long before the pistol becomes unsafe to shoot. As such, you may choose to simply
sell any new 9mm Ruger American® Pistols in your inventory. If you do, we recommend that you provide a copy of the
Safety Bulletin
to the customer. If you are uncomfortable selling these pistols, they
are eligible for a barrel exchange program. Under this program, we will ship you replacement barrels and a return
shipping label for the original barrels. You will need to swap the barrels and return the original barrels to
us.
NOTE: Only new pistols are eligible for this barrel exchange program.
If you have used 9mm Ruger American® Pistols in inventory, you should inspect them as described below and sign up for the retrofit as necessary.
If your pistol is dirty, clean it thoroughly before performing the inspection. Disassembly and cleaning instructions appear in your instruction manual.
Inspect your pistol, paying particular attention to the barrel/slide lockup surfaces and the sidewalls of the slide at the corners of the ejection port.
If you observe excess wear in the lockup surfaces (A and B) or a crack in the slide (C), you should immediately stop using your pistol and sign up for the retrofit. If you are unsure, we recommend that you sign up for the retrofit and allow us to inspect your barrel/slide assembly.
If you do not observe excess wear in the lockup surface or a crack in the slide, no further action is necessary at this time. Nonetheless, you should continue to monitor these areas and, if you suspect that either of these conditions is developing, sign up for the retrofit or contact Customer Service.
Ruger reminds consumers that periodic inspection of any firearm is important to ensuring its safe operation. It is important to clean and inspect your firearm after each range session. Proper maintenance increases the longevity of your firearm and will allow early detection of worn or broken parts.
If you are opting to participate in the barrel exchange program for new pistols and/or have used pistols in inventory that require the retrofit, we request that you complete the form below. You will be asked to provide the serial numbers of the pistols and identify whether each pistol is new or used. You also will be asked to provide your name, phone number, email address and the best time to contact you. Our Customer Service representatives will be in touch with you to confirm your information and walk you through the process.
